In April, Brazil’s textile and clothing imports increased by 25.4% year-on-year, and the import volume increased by 17.3% year-on-year, reaching 104,800 tons. As for the clothing industry, import value in April this year increased by 51.1% year-on-year, and import volume increased by 45.5% year-on-year.
From January to April 2013, Brazil’s textile and clothing imports totaled US$2.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9%. The import value of clothing increased rapidly at a rate of 12.7%, reaching US$957 million.
In April, the output of the Brazilian garment sector fell by 11.36% year-on-year, but increased by 2.7% year-on-year in March. The output of the textile sector fell by 8.06% year-on-year in April and by 0.4% year-on-year in March.
From January to April, the output of the Brazilian textile sector fell by 7.11% year-on-year, while the output of the clothing sector fell by 7.05% year-on-year.
