In the first quarter of 2013, Bolivia’s textile sector continued to show negative growth in the trade balance, according to the ‘Bolivia: Apparel and Textile Foreign Trade’ report published by the Bolivian Foreign Trade Bureau.
In the first quarter of this year, Bolivia exported textile and clothing items worth US$6 million, with the largest export volume to Venezuela, reaching US$3 million, followed by exports to Chile, with an export value of US$812,000, and exports to Argentina. Reaching $682,000.
The main clothing items exported by Bolivia include cotton shirts, T-shirts, women’s underwear, jeans and woolen clothing. La Paz’s textile and clothing exports account for almost 86% of Bolivia’s total textile exports.
In the first quarter of this year, Bolivia imported US$10 million worth of textiles and clothing, with imports from China ranking first (approximately US$4 million), followed by imports from Peru at approximately US$2 million. Santa Cruz province’s imports account for 46% of the country’s total textile imports.
Last year, Bolivia’s textile and clothing trade balance ran a deficit, as Bolivia imported $50 million worth of goods, with imports reaching $39 million.
