The National Bureau of Statistics recently released data showing that in April, Sichuan’s textile and apparel exports totaled US$416 million, a month-on-month increase of 82.35%. Among them, textile exports were US$133 million, a month-on-month increase of 30.80%; clothing exports were US$283 million, a month-on-month increase of 123.66%.
From January to April, Sichuan Province’s cumulative export volume of textiles and clothing totaled US$1.173 billion, a year-on-year increase of 105.72%. Among them, the cumulative export volume of textiles was US$392 million, a year-on-year increase of 20.34%; the cumulative export volume of clothing was US$781 million, a year-on-year increase of 219.27%.
The substantial growth in textile and clothing exports has created a more relaxed environment for the business activities of Sichuan textile enterprises. It is understood that major textile companies in Sichuan Province increased yarn and cloth orders in March; yarn and cloth sales in April reached their best state in the past two years.
However, since May, the RMB has continued to appreciate, and foreign trade companies have been afraid to accept orders. Sichuan cotton textile companies’ yarn and cloth orders have gradually decreased. Recently, some textile companies have found it difficult to balance subsequent production and sales, and operating pressure is increasing.
