Data released by Statistics Canada show that compared with March 2012, clothing retail sales in the Canadian market increased slightly by 3.9% in March 2013.
In March 2013, the monthly sales of the apparel retail industry were 1.765 billion Canadian dollars, compared with 1.699 billion Canadian dollars in the same month last year.
Market analysts said the increase in apparel retail sales was due to sharply lower prices at Canadian retailers compared with overseas retailers.
Although retail sales of clothing items increased, national reports show that overall retail sales in March 2013 were almost the same as February sales.
