According to China Customs statistics, the national fabric export volume from January to September 2016 was US$39.48 billion, a decrease of 3.2%; the average export unit price was US$1.29/kg, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9%. The import value was US$4.15 billion, down 12%. The average unit price of imports was US$2.21/meter, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%.
1. The amount of fabric exports declined in September.
In September 2016, the national fabric export value in a single month was US$3.52 billion, a sharp decrease of 28.6% year-on-year. Among them, silk woven fabrics led the way down by 41.5%.
2. From January to September 2016, exports to ASEAN increased, exports to the EU rebounded, and exports to North America, Latin America and Japan all declined.
From January to September 2016, Asia was still the main market for China’s fabric exports, with exports worth US$39.48 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%. From January to September, exports to ASEAN grew steadily, reaching 3.7%. Among them, exports to the Philippines still showed significant growth, with exports of US$1.85 billion, an increase of 76.7%; exports to India and Cambodia increased by 6.2%.
From January to September, China’s fabric exports to Hong Kong dropped by 8%. Exports to Bangladesh and India both increased, with increases of 5.7% and 9.6% respectively.
From January to September, China’s fabric exports to Japan were US$330 million, a decrease of 9.2%. Exports to the EU have been steadily recovering in recent months, with a year-on-year increase of 1.5%. Exports to Latin America and North America continued to decline, with export values reaching US$3.24 billion and US$1.44 billion respectively, with declines of approximately 12.2% and 12.4% respectively.
3. Except for wool, the export unit price of animal hair increased slightly, while the export prices of other fabrics declined.
The export unit price of wool animal hair woven fabrics increased slightly, with a unit price of US$7.6/meter, an increase of 1.7%. The export unit prices of cotton cloth, silk woven fabrics and chemical fiber woven fabrics all dropped slightly, by 10.5%, 4.2% and 8.2% respectively.

From January to September 2016, China’s textile and apparel exports to Turkey were US$1.39 billion, down 8.7% year-on-year, accounting for 0.7% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports, ranking 36th in China’s single export market. Among them, the export value of products under safeguard measures was US$570 million, a year-on-year decrease of 14.3%, accounting for 41% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Turkey.
Among the products subject to safeguard measures, fabric exports were US$260 million, a year-on-year decrease of 16.7%, accounting for 45.6% of China’s total exports of products subject to safeguard measures to Turkey. The value of clothing exports was US$190 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.8%, accounting for 33.3% of China’s total exports of products subject to safeguard measures against Turkey.

From January to September 2016, China’s textile and apparel exports to Indonesia were US$2.86 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%, accounting for 1.4% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports. Ranking 20th in China’s single export market, among which, the export value of products (fabrics) subject to safeguard measures was US$23.29 million, a year-on-year decrease of 5.6%, accounting for 0.8% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Indonesia.
