Myanmar’s garment factories are preparing to export their products to the United States for the first time starting next month, the Myanmar Garment Entrepreneurs Association (MGEA) said.
Khine Khine Nwe, secretary of the Myanmar Garment Entrepreneurs Association, said: “Currently, some garment factories will export to the United States in June. Some factories have been prepared, and some factories are being prepared. After President Tim Sein’s visit to the United States, we started from U.S. buyers are receiving more inquiries.”
KhineKhineNwe said that most of the factory’s clothing orders come from Japan and South Korea, and Japanese buyers occasionally conduct market surveys.
Last year, Myanmar’s garment exports reached a new record of US$1 billion. The Myanmar Garment Entrepreneurs Association is currently providing training to workers at the garment factory level to build up their production capacity to meet the demand for growing garment orders and expand their export markets.
The EU has provided trade, investment and technical assistance to Myanmar. The EU has also pledged to increase cooperation with Myanmar and promote Myanmar’s garment industry. Because the garment industry is a labor-intensive industry, the growth of the garment industry can generate a large number of jobs.
