In the first four months of 2013, according to statistics from the Ministry of Textile Industry, the production growth rate of the textile industry reached 105.4%, the Turkmenistan government said.
The report said: “During this period, sales growth reached 102.6%. Product profit margin reached 13.4%.”
In the years after Turkmenistan became independent, it invested US$1.65 billion in the reconstruction and modernization of existing textile enterprises, of which foreign investment reached US$300 million, accounting for 18%.
Turkmenistan’s raw cotton sowing reached 550,000 hectares, and last year’s cotton output reached 1.235 million tons, an increase of 12.6% over 2011. Most raw cotton is processed domestically, with the aim of developing the domestic textile industry.
