The Indonesian government stated that Indonesian Customs will continue to crack down on smuggling imports of textiles to protect the domestic textile industry.
“Textile is an important domestic manufacturing industry, so we must vigorously crack down on smuggled imports to avoid affecting related domestic industries.” Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said that he was accompanying President Joko Widodo to inspect four boxes of smuggled imported textiles that had been seized. This batch of imported goods was unloaded directly outside the bonded area and shipped to other places for sale without paying import duties, which was later discovered.
This batch of textiles comes from China, with approximately 376,000 yards of cloth, priced at US$1.028 million, and a payable tariff of US$163,280.
President Joko Widodo called on the Police Department and the Ministry of Justice to support the work of the customs and jointly combat the smuggling of such goods, because the domestic textile market has been disrupted by smuggled goods.
