The Myanmar Textile Industry Association predicts that the export volume of textile products will increase significantly this year and is expected to reach US$2 billion. In the past two years, the national textile export volume was about US$1 billion.
At present, the vast majority of textile factories in Myanmar operate on a piece-rate basis and are less profitable. It is reported that out of the US$1 billion in textile product exports, factories only receive a certain amount of OEM fees.
The main difficulties currently faced by the textile industry are transportation, human resources, and operational instability. It is reported that South Korea and Japan, which mainly order textile products from Myanmar, have begun to order from Vietnam. Myanmar’s textile exports are expected to reach US$2 billion this year
