Data recently released by Egypt’s Popular Mobilization and Central Bureau of Statistics (CAPMAS) show that from December 2014 to February 2015, Egypt’s cotton exports reached 246,000 quintals (1 quintal is equivalent to 100 kilograms), which is 246,000 quintals (1 quintal is equivalent to 100 kilograms), which is higher than the same period in the previous season. Exports of 126,600 quintals increased by 94.3%. CAPMAS believes that the reason for the increase in exports is due to the increase in cotton stocks last season, which led to lower local cotton prices.
From December 2014 to February 2015, Egypt’s total domestic cotton consumption reached 175,800 quintals, an increase of 115.5% from 81,600 quintals in the same period of the previous season, mainly because local cotton spinning mills reduced the amount of cotton imported. From December 2014 to February 2015, Egypt’s cotton ginning output reached 1.3 million quintals, an increase of 26.2% from 1 million quintals in the same period of the previous season.
