Today, with the increasing economic globalization and trade liberalization, China and Europe should carry out extensive mutually beneficial cooperation and achieve complementary advantages to promote the continuous development of textile industries in various countries to a higher level, so as to enable manufacturers and traders to and consumers benefit together. This is the common wish expressed by the Chinese and European textile circles at the opening ceremony of the China-EU Textile Industry Counterpart Fair held in Beijing on March 30.
The China-EU textile industry counterpart meeting is the first counterpart meeting held by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles and the European Union using the “Asian Investment Fund” after textile integration. 46 companies from the EU and more than 100 companies from China, From that day to April 1, we will have close contact and negotiate with each other.
Wang Shenyang, president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, said at the meeting that since last year, textile and garment industry organizations in some countries have continued to demand restrictions on Chinese textiles due to one-sided propaganda and instigation from individual countries. Facts will eventually prove that such restrictions are unnecessary and unreasonable. Although China is a major exporter of textiles and clothing, it is far from a powerful country. China has no idea of monopolizing the world market, nor does it have the ability to do so. EU companies have unique advantages in product research and development, design, branding, and circulation, while Chinese companies have strong competitiveness in terms of labor costs, complete industrial chains, rapid response, and flexible trade mechanisms. Chinese and European textile and garment enterprises have obvious complementary advantages and huge potential for cooperation.
Beckmann, president of the German Textile Industry Association, said that no one doubts China’s important position in the international textile and apparel market, and EU companies cannot reverse this trend. Some textile and apparel companies in the EU are worried that the large influx of Chinese textile and apparel products into the European market will harm the interests of European companies. However, EU textile companies should take a longer-term view. China’s huge textile and apparel market can also provide development opportunities for European companies.
Lauck, the German Embassy in China, said that China not only plays an important market role in textile and apparel products, but is also an important purchasing location for EU textile and apparel companies. EU companies must learn to face the new situation and seize new opportunities. The abolition of textile quotas has brought business opportunities to the global textile industry, especially to retailers and consumers. China has the right to enjoy the benefits brought by joining the WTO, but it should adopt industry self-discipline measures to reasonably control the growth of textile exports and contribute to the new order of international textile trade.
