Pakistan’s Islamabad port recently discovered and seized a case of illegal import of clothing. According to regulations, one kilogram of clothing should pay a tariff of US$5.7, but the importer operated in secret and only paid US$2.7 per kilogram of clothing, resulting in a loss of hundreds of millions of rupees to the national finance.
Hugo.com learned from today’s report on the “nation.com.pk” website that based on the import records of Islamabad Dry Port, Pakistan Customs began to investigate the case of imported clothing customs clearance fraud.
The incident caused a loss of 170 million rupees.
According to sources, the 110 containers of clothing imported this time come from different countries and are valuable. Officials at the Islamabad Dry Port, under the instruction of senior Pakistani customs officials, ignored the relevant national rules and regulations and released these imported clothes in violation of regulations.
The source added: “Currently, the importers are targeting Muhammad Ali and Haji Hassan of Universal Gateway Company, who are required to pay a duty of US$5.7 per kilogram of clothing. But with the connivance of Chaudhry Ahsan of New Ahsan Company, every Only USD 2.7 was paid for the kilogram of clothing, resulting in a loss of Rs 170 million to the state exchequer.
Regarding this case, the Pakistan Customs Administration stated that it would investigate it. A customs intelligence team raided the import department and retrieved import records, and subsequently opened an investigation against Haji Hassan, Muhammad Ali and Chaudhry Ihsanullah of New Ahsan.
All defendants were arrested. Later, the defendants applied to the Islamabad High Court for bail, but the court rejected their application. In the following days, the defendant successfully applied for bail in a Rawalpindi court.
Sources said that the investigation found that the case also involved senior officials of Islamabad Dry Port and Customs. Several other senior officials of the Customs Service stepped in to rescue the accused and the case remains unsolved to this day.
Another deputy general manager Waheed Marwat said the case is under investigation and awaits the court’s decision.
