According to statistics from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan exported more than 160,000 tons of cotton to China in 2014.
According to Chinese customs statistics, China’s second-largest imported commodity from Uzbekistan is cotton, with an import volume of 239,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 23.9%, and a value of US$526 million, accounting for 32.92% of China’s imports from Uzbekistan, a year-on-year decrease of 21.26%. %.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Uzbekistan explained that the main reason for the difference in data between the two sides is that Uzbekistan is not included in the China-Uzbekistan cotton trade statistics, but China is included in the cotton purchased by international cotton merchants and then re-exported to China. Uzbekistan hopes that China and Uzbekistan will increase direct cotton trade.
