On December 11, 2014, Health Canada and MEXX Canada announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s jackets.
The recalled product is a MEXX brand winter children’s jacket, equipped with small luminous accessories, product sizes 2-12, product barcodes include K1HCO015, etc. The reason for the recall is that the light-up gadgets contain batteries that can easily detach, posing a chemical hazard and choking hazard to children. The recalled products were retailed and sold online in the Canadian market from July 28, 2014 to December 4, 2014. The total sales volume in Canada was approximately 15,092 pieces.
Up to now, MEXX Canada has not received any reports of dangers from the use of the product, and Health Canada has received a report of a child suffocating due to the clothing, and the child was sent to the hospital for treatment.
For this reason, Health Canada recommends that consumers stop using light-up gadgets on jackets and remove them from their jackets. MEXX Canada confirms that jackets without light-up gadgets are still safe to wear.
