On November 14, the Turkmenistan government website reported that the processing of new cotton in Turkmenistan exceeded 450,000 tons. Since the first batch of raw materials was purchased by 36 cotton gin factories in Turkmenistan at the end of August this year, cotton processing has been started, with a daily processing capacity of 5,500 tons of cotton. Ginning plants under the Turkmenistan State Cotton Concern obtain valuable fiber through raw cotton processing. As the main raw material for the textile industry, it has produced approximately 140,000 tons so far. In addition to fiber, the cotton ginner has so far harvested more than 25 tons of cotton seeds, about 12,000 tons of cotton lint, and more than 2,000 tons of small cotton berries. All processing will be completed by the end of April next year. Turkmenistan’s cotton planting area is 545,000 hectares, and a total of 1.065 million tons of cotton was harvested this year, exceeding the quota by 1.4%.
In order to expand cotton production and encourage production, the President of Turkmenistan issued a decree “On ensuring the cultivation of cotton in Turkmenistan and encouraging high yields in cotton production”. This decree came into effect on January 20, 2012, stipulating that the country will Purchase cotton farmers’ overfulfilled portion at a price that exceeds the set price by 30%.
