Data show that Thailand’s cotton export volume in September was 31,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7%, which was the sixth increase in the past eight months. Among them, Australian cotton imports reached 13,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 49.3%. This is the highest level in three years, offsetting the decline in imports of US cotton.
In the first two months of this year, Thailand imported a total of 23,000 tons of cotton, a year-on-year increase of 36.3%, the highest level since the same period in 2002/03. In particular, the import volume of Australian cotton increased significantly. After China restricts the issuance of imported cotton quotas this year, more Australian cotton will enter the Thai market and may replace the United States as Thailand’s largest cotton import variety.
