Energy shortage causes Pakistan’s textile exports to decline

In September this year, Pakistan’s exports of cotton yarn, cotton cloth, and bedding dropped by 22%, 14%, and 3% respectively year-on-year. Since April, Pakistan’s cotton yarn and cotton cloth exports have dropped by 26% and 11% year-on-year respectively. Industry insiders in Pakistan believe that the lack of electricity and natural gas supply in Punjab Province, which has led to idle production capacity in the textile industry, is the main reason for the decline in textile exports.
