From January to June 2014, the amount of imported cotton in Jiangsu Province decreased compared with last year, with the weight decreasing by 30.4%, the batch size decreasing by 24.8%, the number of pieces decreasing by 27.6%, and the value decreasing by 24.0%.
Statistics show that Jiangsu imported a total of 1,527 batches of cotton, 2.467 million bales, 473,076 tons, with a total value of 974.661 million US dollars. Analysts believe that the main reason for the decline in imported cotton is due to the large amount of cotton reserves in our country, and the reduction of imported cotton quotas issued by the National Development and Reform Commission to digest the inventory. The total amount of external claims was US$13.736 million, accounting for 1.41% of the total value of imported goods.
