On July 1, 2014, Standards Australia released a new version of AS/NZS1249, a standard for children’s pajamas and some daily clothing that reduces fire risks.
The new version of the standard covers some important changes, including:
Rationalization of flammability testing and decoration requirements;
Revise the flammability test method to identify materials that will drip during testing;
Introduced new warning labels;
Improved and clarified the original more complex parts of the standard to provide users with a more feasible operating document.
Australia’s review of previous standards, the flammability of fabrics, and consumer understanding of warning labels comes after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and industry players raised questions about compliance and ease of use. A lot of research.
In addition to complying with the requirements of the new standards, suppliers intending to sell in Australia and New Zealand must also comply with that country’s consumer regulations.
Some everyday clothing is also included in this standard because it is difficult to distinguish pajamas from these garments.
