Polyester filament exports grow strongly while cotton yarn imports decline

As of June 30, 2014, polyester prices continued to rise along with China’s rapidly expanding raw material market. However, the operating rate of downstream enterprises further decreased. China’s cotton spinning industry remains relatively difficult, while yarn prices remain stable in major markets.
According to China Customs statistics, the import volume of PX (the most important raw material in the polyester supply chain) in May reached 793,721 tons, a month-on-month increase of 0.1%; the import volume of polyester fiber and film was 653,099 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.35%, a month-on-month decrease of 10.24% ; Cotton yarn imports were 150,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.73% and a month-on-month decrease of 16.67%. Polyester filament exports grew strongly, with monthly export volume reaching 147,428 tons in May, a year-on-year increase of 29.44% and a month-on-month increase of 0.3%.
