Recently, the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) international working group announced that version 4.0 of the globally recognized standard for textiles processed from qualified organic natural fibers has been officially promulgated. The new version retains the core provisions of GOTS, such as: qualified organic fiber content of not less than 70%, and prohibition of the use of GMO (genetically modified), nanotechnology and carcinogens.
The 4.0 version of the standard has modified the standards for conventionally added fiber substances, including that the content of recycled synthetic fibers can reach 30%, but the prerequisite is that these fibers are environmentally friendly and certified; the use of pure polyester and Angora rabbit fur. GOTS believes that it is no longer reasonable to focus only on the natural fiber content of fibers.
It is reported that in 2012, more than 3,000 brands in 62 countries around the world were certified by GOTS, and in 2013, the number of certified brands reached 3,085. The top five countries with the number of GOTS certifications are India, Turkey, Germany, China, and South Korea. There are currently 17 GOTS certified certification organizations, and all certified products can be checked on the GOTS official website.
