From January to March 2014, the import and export volume of fabrics was US$12.417 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.98%. Among them, the export value was US$10.826 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.74%, and the export quantity was 7.511 billion meters, a year-on-year decrease of 0.35%. The average export unit price was 1.44 yuan/meter, a year-on-year increase of 2.09%. The import value was US$1.591 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.88%.
1. Fabric exports increased slightly in the first quarter
From January to March 2014, the growth rate of national fabric exports was not large. Exports to Asia were US$6.796 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.34%, of which exports to Pakistan, Cambodia and the Philippines increased by 36.64%, 22.08% and 7.4% respectively. Exports to the EU increased by 11.98% year-on-year, of which exports to Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy increased by 39.17%, 15.95% and 14.06% respectively. Exports to Africa increased by 2.66% year-on-year, of which exports to Gambia, Nigeria and Kenya increased by 34.68%, 16.32% and 12.7% respectively. Exports to Latin America increased by 0.85% year-on-year, of which exports to Nicaragua, Colombia and Mexico increased by 34.68%, 16.32% and 9.57% respectively.
2. Fabric exports from major provinces and cities maintain growth
A total of 31 provinces and cities across the country exported fabrics, and 14 provinces and cities saw exports decline. The export value of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai on the southeast coast increased by 8.15%, 6.21% and 4.04% respectively year-on-year. The export value of Ningxia, Gansu and Guangxi in other regions increased by 170%, 163% and 160% respectively year-on-year.
3. Efforts to promote fabric exports
In the first quarter of 2014, the amount of fabric exports increased slightly, and the export quantity decreased slightly. Apart from holiday factors, weak market demand is also an important factor. It is hoped that with the recovery of the European and American economies and the warming of international market demand, fabric exports will grow steadily this year.

From January to March 2014, China’s textile and apparel exports to Turkey were US$515 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.22%, accounting for 0.89% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports, ranking 29th in China’s single export market. Ranked 17th in China’s single export market, among which, the export value of products (fabrics) subject to safeguard measures was US$9.06 million, a year-on-year decrease of 62.55%, accounting for 0.93% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Indonesia.
