Original title: The annual production capacity of raw silk and carbon fiber both ranks first in the country. By 2025, Jilin Province’s carbon fiber entire industry chain will strive to have an output value exceeding 30 billion yuan. ——The Jilin mark of “black gold”
Carbon fiber, the “King of New Materials” in the 21st century, is also known as “black gold”. Don’t underestimate the carbon fiber strands, which are as thin as cotton threads. Strands of dark, slender carbon fibers, when connected and combined, can reach 7 to 10 times the strength of steel. They are widely used in strategic emerging industries such as aerospace, wind power, and fuel cells.
For a long time, the threshold for carbon fiber manufacturing has been high and difficult, and the core technology has not been in our own hands. More than 10 years ago, Jilin Province found a breakthrough in the field of carbon fiber raw filament manufacturing, achieved a technological ice-breaking, and pioneered the large-scale production of carbon fiber in my country. It allowed the industrialization of carbon fiber raw filaments in Jilin Province and laid the foundation for the subsequent development of the entire carbon fiber industry chain in Jilin Province. A solid and stable foundation has been laid.
Since 2021, Jilin Province has seized the development of the carbon fiber industry, taken advantage of the momentum, and comprehensively launched and constructed a number of carbon fiber raw filament, carbon filament and composite materials projects . Up to now, Jilin Province has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons of carbon fiber raw silk and 25,000 tons of carbon filament, both ranking first in the country. Product specifications cover multiple varieties of large and small tows such as 1K, 3K, 6K, 12K, 24K, and 48K.
Jilin City, with Jilin Chemical Fiber as the leader in the development of the carbon fiber industry, currently has 12 carbon fiber R&D and production enterprises above designated size. 4 series of carbon fiber downstream products and more than 10 kinds of end products have achieved large-scale production. Jilin City Economic Development Zone The carbon fiber industry base has been recognized as a “national carbon fiber high-tech industrialization base” by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the advantages of industrial cluster have initially emerged.
In the carbonization workshop of Jilin Chemical Fiber Guoxing Carbon Fiber Co., Ltd., carbon fiber raw filaments run in an orderly manner on the wire path, and the temperature in each oxidation furnace rises steadily according to the set value. With the successful output of pre-oxidized wire from No. 6 oxidation furnace, Line 7 of Jilin Chemical Fiber’s 15,000-ton carbon fiber project successfully ran a test run. This is also the third large tow carbonization line put into operation by Guoxing Carbon Fiber Company this year.
The complete industrial chain and significant cluster effect are the unique advantages of Jilin Province in developing new material industries led by carbon fiber. Jilin Province has many key enterprises such as PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company, Jilin Chemical Fiber, Jilin Baojing, Changguang Aerospace, Jilin Huayang, Liaoyuan Yida Carbon Industry, etc., forming a “propylene-propylene Nitrile-polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor-carbon fiber-carbon fiber composite materials and downstream products” is a relatively complete industrial chain.
In July 2021, the first carbonization line of Jilin Chemical Fiber’s 150,000-ton carbon fiber project was successfully started in one go. This production line mainly produces 25K large tow carbon fiber, and the products are used in the fields of pultruded sheets and prepregs supporting wind power.
In September 2021, Jilin Chemical Fiber’s 12,000-ton carbon fiber composite project was launched in Jilin Economic Development Zone. The project covers an area of 134,000 square meters, with a total planned investment of 1.6 billion yuan. It will mainly build a 12,000-ton carbonization line, a 10,000-ton carbon fiber pultruded plate, and a 4 million square meter carbon fiber woven cloth project. It is expected to be put into production in August 2022.
Currently, there are 25 key projects under construction in the carbon fiber industry in Jilin Province, including 7 projects with more than 1 billion yuan; after all are put into production, it is expected to increase the output value by 24 billion yuan. Jilin Chemical Fiber’s 200,000-ton carbon fiber full industry chain project is the key promotion project, including the 60,000-ton annual raw fiber expansion project, Guoxing Carbon Fiber and Kemeike Chemical’s eight carbonization lines that were completed and put into operation in just half a year.
In recent years, the provincial party committee and the provincial government have attached great importance to the development of the carbon fiber industry. In September 2021, Jilin Province issued “Several Measures to Promote the HighQuality Development of the Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Industry”, starting from optimizing spatial layout, highlighting innovation leadership, and strengthening chain building and supplementation. 19 specific policy measures have been formulated from five aspects: chain, ensuring factor supply, and strengthening policy support, to fully provide momentum for the carbon fiber industry to take off in Jilin.
“In the next step, Jilin Province will follow the path of ‘end application leadership, raw carbon filament support, and composite material synergy’, focusing on wind and solar power generation, automobiles and rail transit, aerospace and other application fields, accelerate project construction and strengthen recovery R&D of materials and products will promote scale expansion and technology iteration; strengthen collaborative innovation among upstream and downstream enterprises and scientific research institutes, establish an application demonstration mechanism, continue to improve the layout of the entire industry chain, and strive to create a ‘China carbon fiber industry highland’. Strive to achieve the goal of building a “highland of China’s carbon fiber industry” by the end of 2025. The output value of the entire provincial carbon fiber industry chain exceeded 30 billion yuan,” said the relevant person in charge of the Consumer Goods Industry Division of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology.
