According to statistics from the Zhangjiagang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, from January to September this year, Zhangjiagang Port, my country’s third largest cotton import port, imported a total of 372,000 tons of cotton with a value of US$720 million.
The annual import volume of Zhangjiagang Port has exceeded 500,000 tons in recent years. Since this year, it has been affected by the national cotton purchase and storage policy, the domestic cotton import quota limit, the domestic textile industry demand is not strong, and Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Affected by factors such as Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries further increasing their global share of cotton consumption, cotton imports fell month-on-month. In order to promote the imported cotton trade, the Zhangjiagang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau actively created Jiangsu imported cotton inspection models, implemented record registration and classified management of imported cotton warehousing enterprises and cotton using enterprises, and achieved full coverage of assessments. At the same time, we made full use of cotton laboratories to speed up testing and certification. We have detected 16,000 tons of unqualified cotton and helped companies claim US$4 million in external claims.
