According to Sri Lanka’s “Daily News” report, John Lawrence, chairman of the country’s Garment Exporters Association, recently expressed the hope to further expand Sri Lanka’s clothing exports to China.

John said that Sri Lanka’s garment exports declined by 7% in 2012. This year’s exports of the country’s garment industry could reach US$4 billion, which is better than expected.

John said that in the China-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement, which is currently in the negotiation stage, clothing is expected to be included in the items that enjoy preferential treatment. He hopes that Sri Lanka can seize the opportunity to produce more high-quality clothing and export it to the Chinese market. In addition to the Chinese market, Sri Lanka is also very optimistic about the apparel markets of BRICS countries such as India and Russia, as well as Japan and South Korea.
