The Bangladesh Garment Workers Union (BGWUC) demands that the monthly minimum wage of workers be increased by 175%. If the case is successful, labor wages will be increased from the current 8,000 taka to 22,000 taka.
It is expected that BGWUC leaders will submit a proposal to the Bangladesh Labor Minister and Cabinet, requesting an increase in wages and benefits for garment workers, and the establishment of a salary committee to address the labor salary structure. make a suggestion.
BGWUC Chairman Md Towhidur Rahman said at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dakar: Due to inflation and sharp increases in rents, the cost of living has increased unexpectedly. Therefore, there is a need to increase the minimum wage for garment workers.
Md Towhidur Rahman also called for a 65% increase in the minimum wage for seventh-grade workers (seventh-grade workers) from 600 taka in 2006. In the salary structure of Bangladesh’s garment workers, Level 7 is the lowest level; in terms of the garment industry, Level 7 labor positions include: assistant sewing, assistant dry cleaning, ironing, etc.
The basic salary means that garment workers cannot receive due compensation when they leave or are fired.
