According to data released by the Portuguese Textile and Apparel Association, in April this year, Portugal’s textile and clothing exports increased by 10.1% year-on-year, reaching 330.8 million euros.
In April this year, Portugal’s total textile and clothing exports were still lower than the 342 million euros in April 2011. This is because Portugal’s textile and clothing exports fell by 12% year-on-year in April 2012.
In April 2013, Portugal’s exports of knitwear and accessories increased by 7.7% year-on-year, reaching 41 million euros; exports of finished textiles, including home textile products, increased by 12.3% year-on-year, reaching 19 million euros. However, fabric exports fell by 11% year-on-year to 33 million euros. Portugal’s textile and clothing imports increased by 13.2% year-on-year in April to 260.4 million euros. In the first quarter of this year, Portugal’s textile and clothing trade surplus reached 376 million euros, a year-on-year increase of 8%.
