According to Bel-Tass news agency, Eurasian Economic Commission Trade Minister Srepnev recently told the media that the Eurasian Economic Commission is currently drafting recommendations to increase import tariffs on clothing, shoes and other goods starting from September 1 this year. to the level allowed by the WTO.
“We have done a lot of work on customs valuation, and we are currently submitting to the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission to adjust unified tariff levels in line with the commitments to join the WTO. This starts with a planned reduction of tariff rates in accordance with the schedule (from Effective from September 1st), followed by the elimination of all differences that arose during the negotiation process with the EU on the “Special Composition of Tariffs”. According to EU experts, this part is not correctly reflected in Russia’s tariff levels in the unified economic space.
He pointed out that as for bulk commodities, first of all such as clothing and shoes, the Eurasian Economic Commission will take into account the consultations between Russia and the EU when making decisions, but the final tax rate will change. “We will make full use of restrictive tariff levels for tariff protection. Our current tariff level is 10%, but we have committed to the WTO that restrictive tariffs can be increased to 20%. Some countries criticize us for adopting a special tariff composition. Of course, we We are making it consistent with WTO regulations, but at the same time, we are also raising the restrictive tariff level to about 18% from September 1.” Srepunov also said that relevant recommendations have also been formulated for some sensitive commodities such as other automobiles and chemicals.
