Recently, a total of 33 European and American ready-to-wear brands and retailers, including the American brand Abercrombie & Fitch, the Italian brand Benetton, the German brand C&A, and the Swedish brand H&M, signed the “Bangladesh Fire and Building Safety Agreement” with five-year legal binding effect.
According to the agreement, all Bangladeshi suppliers that cooperate with companies that sign the agreement will be subject to independent safety inspections and required to disclose their inspection reports. European and American brand companies and retailers must forcibly solve the problems detected. Such as repairing and renovating workplaces that have been in disrepair and being obliged to bear the costs of safety upgrades. For suppliers that refuse to improve, brand companies can even terminate the partnership.
