Imports of raw materials and auxiliary materials for Vietnam’s textile and apparel industries increased significantly year-on-year

According to Vietnam’s “Youth News”, Vietnam’s imports of textile and clothing raw materials in the first two months of 2011 reached US$670 million, a year-on-year increase of 100%. Among them, cotton imports were 64,000 tons, worth US$184 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.4% and 103% respectively. The price of imported cotton has risen sharply, causing Vietnam’s yarn production costs to rise by 30-40%, and Vietnam’s domestic clothing production costs to rise by 15-20%.
