Wuhan Customs has strengthened imported quality supervision of children’s products and organized quality control of imported baby and children’s products. Safety risk monitoring results show that the proportion that does not meet my country’s current standards is as high as 36%.

Wuhan Customs conducted risk monitoring on a total of 50 batches of imported baby and child products in four categories, including infant clothing, toys, stationery, and daily necessities, and detected 18 batches of infant and child consumer products that did not meet current standards, including 2 batches of toys. There were 3 batches of infant products and 13 batches of stationery, of which 8 batches had unqualified markings and 10 batches had safety risks, mainly involving small parts attached to toys with insufficient mechanical strength and plastic parts that were accessible to stationery. The phthalates in the product exceed the standard and the volatile substances in the pacifier exceed the standard.

In unqualified baby toys, if the small parts attached to the toys fall off due to insufficient mechanical strength, children may put them in their mouths, posing a risk of suffocation. Phthalates are commonly known as plasticizers. Children touching and biting related products during play may cause plasticizers to enter the body through the digestive tract. The volatile substances in pacifiers exceed the standard, and long-term use may affect the health of infants and young children.

All the unqualified children’s products detected above have been dealt with in accordance with laws and regulations. Wuhan Customs said it will continue to strengthen the quality and safety risk tracking and information collection of children’s clothing, toys, baby bottles, pacifiers, baby diapers, stationery and other children’s products.
