The China Textile ImportExport Chamber of Commerce released on the 1st the situation of China’s home textile exports in the first four months of 2022: affected by factors such as weakening foreign demand, rebound of the epidemic, and transfer of orders. Impact, in the single month of April 2022, China’s home textile foreign trade exports experienced a significant decline, driving the cumulative exports from January to April to show a downward trend.
In the first four months of 2022, China’s exports of home textile products were US$9.8 billion, a slight decrease of 0.17% year-on-year. In April alone, exports fell by 12.9%, causing cumulative exports to turn from rising to falling. From the perspective of specific products, in April, except for tableware, which increased by 8.3%, the exports of other categories of products showed a downward trend. Among them, exports of bedding and curtain products fell sharply, by 18.8% and 21.3% respectively, while other categories of products such as blankets and towels fell by between 2% and 9%.
According to the analysis of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, multiple factors have superimposed, and China’s home textile exports are facing greater downward pressure in the second quarter. On the one hand, the domestic epidemic has recurred in many places and the logistics supply chain is not running smoothly, causing the operating rate of enterprises to decline. On the other hand, the outward migration of orders gradually emerged. Taken together, the second and third quarters of last year coincided with the peak period of exports. Taking into account the current domestic and international situation and the situation of enterprises receiving orders, it is expected that the downward pressure on exports will increase in May and June this year, and the export situation in the second half of the year will still be relatively large. Uncertainty.
At the same time, in the first four months, China’s home textile exports to the US and European markets still maintained growth, but the growth rate declined month by month. Exports to the United States were US$3.3 billion, an increase of 3.3%, and exports to the EU were US$1.34 billion, an increase of 6.9%.
From January to April, among the top five exporting provinces and cities, Zhejiang, Shandong and Guangdong maintained growth, with increases of 3.2%, 8.2%, and 10.9% respectively; exports of Jiangsu and Shanghai declined, with decreases of 6.4% and 17.8% respectively.
