On May 28-29, 2022, the finals of the 4th National College Student Sericulture Biotechnology Innovation Competition were held at South China Agricultural University. For the first time, the competition used a combination of online and offline forms. Academician Xiang hopes that this competition will more effectively promote the breakthrough of biotechnology in the field of sericulture and encourage students of sericulture to promote the sericulture industry to achieve new development and glory in the era of bio-economy.
Vice President Yang Yundong of South China Agricultural University said that the school’s sericulture major has a history of a hundred years and has cultivated a large number of high-level sericulture professional talents. Hosting the National College Student Sericulture Biotechnology Innovation Competition this time has important guiding significance for the school to deepen the education and teaching reform of sericulture major in the construction of double first-class and new agricultural sciences. It is the school’s cooperation with other participating universities and units to jointly promote and enhance the influence of sericulture technology. It is an important link with the publicity. It is hoped that through the competition, the new forces of sericulture will persist in scientific and technological innovation, inherit and carry forward sericulture.
The 94 contestants participating in the finals were divided into undergraduate, master’s and doctoral groups to defend their reports online respectively, and 21 specially invited experts conducted reviews online and offline simultaneously. After a day of fierce competition, the expert committee of the competition selected 25 special prize winners, 44 first prize winners and 25 second prize winners.
At the closing ceremony, the five representatives who won the special prizes of the undergraduate group, master’s group, and doctoral group gave a wonderful display of their works. Among them, students from South China Agricultural University performed very well in this competition, winning 5 special prizes and 8 first prizes in 18 participating projects.
