“The successful completion and commissioning of your company’s first domestic device for the comprehensive utilization of waste gas to produce ethylene glycol products has found a new use for the resource utilization of waste gas and turned waste gas into treasure.” On June 6, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation wrote this in a congratulatory letter sent to Hami GuanghuiEnvironmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.
The comprehensive utilization of waste gas with an annual output of 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol project was invested by Hami Guanghui Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. and was launched in September 2019. It passed the performance assessment on May 31 this year. The ethylene glycol producedQualityall comply with relevant national standards. The project was successfully put into operation and plays an important leading role in the development of the international and domestic coal chemical industry.
Ethylene glycol is a high value-added basic chemical product that is widely used in textiles, chemicals, solvents, fine chemicals and other fields. Before the project reached production, the only raw materials for ethylene glycol production in the world were petroleum and coal.
“Foreign countries all use petroleum to make ethylene glycol, and there is no process for using coal to make ethylene glycol. We have already achieved the production of ethylene glycol from raw coal gas, and the cost has dropped by three-fifths, which shows that our country’s coal chemical industry is leading again. One step in the world.” said Li Peng, chief engineer of Hami Guanghui Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.
Coal gas is a by-product produced during the low-temperature pyrolysis of coal. Due to the complex composition and high nitrogen content of raw coal gas, comprehensive utilization has always been a difficult problem in the industry. For many years, the main treatment methods have been combustion emissions, hydrogen production and power generation.
This project can consume 2.8 billion standard cubic meters of waste gas every year. Compared with using waste gas to produce hydrogen and generate electricity, ethylene glycol can produce higher added value. “According to our calculations, 2.8 billion standard cubic meters of raw coal gas can produce 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol, with an output value of 1.7 billion yuan and a net profit of 420 million yuan. The output value of the same amount of raw coal gas used to produce ethylene glycol exceeds that of power generation Three times the output value.” Li Peng said.
In addition, using waste gas to produce ethylene glycol can significantly reduce carbon emissions. According to reports, 2.8 billion standard cubic meters of waste gas will be used to produce ethylene glycol, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 600,000 tons.
