From June 3rd to 5th, the 2022 “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” intangible cultural heritage promotion display was held at the Wuhan International Convention and Exhibition Center. The traditional printing and dyeing technology inheritance and innovation team of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center of Wuhan Textile University presented an on-site presentation Citizens explained the printing and dyeing techniques of Tianmen blue calico, allowing them to fully understand Jingchu traditional indigo dyeing culture and techniques such as hand engraving of indigo calico, plant indigo indigo process, and static display of indigo dyed clothing.
According to Wang Ni, associate professor of Wuhan Textile University, Tianmen has had folk wedding customs of “rushing into peach blossom vats” and “pressing boxes” since ancient times. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, 156 dyeing workshops were opened in Tianmen, and the blue calico printing and dyeing technology was approved by Hubei Province in 2011. The third batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage list projects.
