The United States releases textile import statistics

According to statistics released by the Office of Textiles and Apparel of the U.S. Department of Commerce (OTEXA), in January 2009, the United States imported 3.77 billion square meters of textiles and apparel from the world, a year-on-year decrease of 8.9%, and the amount was US$6.99 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%; imports from China were 16 billion square meters, a year-on-year decrease of 4.0%, and the amount was US$2.66 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%. China’s share of the total import volume of the United States increased from 40.2% in 2008 to 42.4% in 2009, and its share of the total import value increased from 34.0% in 2008 to 38.1% in 2008.
