As of October 31, 2008, Romania’s exports of textiles and textile products reached 4.290 billion euros (accounting for 15% of Romania’s total exports), and its imports reached 3.961 billion euros (accounting for 8% of Romania’s total imports). National Export Strategy Coordination Member, Director of the Export Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Trade and Business Environment said at the National Congress of the SEETAL Programme.
Romania’s main textile export partner is Italy, which accounted for 36.1% of Romania’s total textile exports in 2007, with exports reaching 1.102 billion euros. The main non-EU export markets are Serbia, the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong. In terms of absolute values, exports of wide shirts and women’s sleeveless shirts fell by 67.3 million euros, footwear exports fell by 59.9 million euros, and imports of textile products and leather products fell by 3.5%.
