Nigerian experts recently called for the development strategies of Turkey and China to be adopted in order to revive the Nigerian textile industry.
Turkey’s development model is the “Industrial Integrated Development Plan”: building cotton farms, maintaining good relations with the EU, and implementing textile import quotas without completely banning textile imports. Turkey became one of the world’s major textile producers through this program.
China’s development strategy was implemented 30 years ago, and the government has invested heavily in the development of the textile industry. In order to cope with the increasingly fierce competition in textiles, the government is taking measures to establish textile factories in low-cost countries.
