Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced a 10% cut in garment export fees and called on workers to end the strike to avoid more chaos in the already stumbling garment sector.
Hun Sen said: “I have announced a 10% reduction in export management fees and other fees to ease your pressure.”
This statement was made at the 14th Government-Private Sector Forum and was made at the request of the President of the Cambodian Garment Manufacturers Association.
The association requested a 30% reduction in fees to assist exporters.
Hun Sen asked workers to stop the strike and Vietnam and China to increase their competitive advantage over Cambodia in terms of productivity.
Thousands of Cambodian workers have been laid off as orders for clothing drop, due to falling demand from the United States, Cambodia’s largest consumer of clothing.
