In October 2008, the export orders of Bangladesh’s knitting sector increased by at least 12% year-on-year. This is revealed by analysts at the research unit of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). The research unit analyzed the utilization statement issued by BKMEA and came to this conclusion.
In September 2008, Bangladesh’s knitwear exports experienced a 10% year-on-year negative growth, analysts said. The president of BKMEA said that they received orders from traditional customers as usual. “We get normal orders from European countries, but orders from the United States dropped in October.”
BKMEA leads more than 1,300 knitting factories. The BKMEA president said that Bangladesh will receive orders from other new customers in the short term. T-shirts, crew neck sweaters, sweaters, cardigans and woolen products made in Bangladesh. In the fiscal year 2007-08, Bangladeshi knitting factories exported products worth US$5.532 billion, and their target is to export US$5.47 billion.
