In the context of the slowdown in global economic growth, Indonesian textile manufacturers expect that textile exports will still show growth in 2009.
The Indonesian Textile Association (API) said that the increase in China’s technology and labor cost prices will provide Indonesia with better opportunities to capture world market share.
In 2008, Indonesia’s textile exports increased by 7.45% year-on-year to 2.01 million tons, and the export value soared by 8.33% to US$10.84 billion.
Exports to traditional markets such as the United States, Europe, and Japan are expected to decrease. Exports to other markets are likely to continue to grow, such as Cambodia, Laos, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
