An ancient textile technology with few successors – “Darai”

There is a carpet textile technology in Iran that originated from ancient Persia, called “Daray”. Today, only a few people master this textile technology.

Ramazan Rezai, an old man in his 90s, has been doing this business for more than 70 years. The workshop where the old man works has a history of 120 years. The old man recalled that there were 10 textile machines in the workshop at that time, but only this one remains today.

Unfortunately, there are already very few people who are still “Dalai”. The old man said that nowadays, from yarn shakers, dyers to weavers, there are no successors. He doesn’t know how long this textile technology can continue.
