Bangladesh’s garment factories reopen

According to Bangladesh’s “Daily Star” report on April 28, the National Shopkeepers Association of Bangladesh (NASOB) stated that since March 25, in order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, Shops are closed across Bangladesh, and shop owners have suffered business losses of 60-70 billion taka. There are approximately 2.2 million shops across Bangladesh and more than 100 million people are engaged in the industry. If business cannot be resumed during Ramadan, the industry’s operating losses will be as high as Tk 22,000 billion. At present, the All Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to restart export-oriented industries such as garment factories and large industrial enterprises to resume work and production. About 1,400 garment factories reopened on April 26. As of April 27, the total number of new coronavirus infections in Bangladesh reached 5,913, and the total number of deaths was 152.
