At present, some cotton mills in India can resume production, but due to insufficient labor, the operating rate is relatively low. Affected by sluggish demand, yarn prices are still falling, and cotton and yarn prices are expected to fall further after production restarts.
Recent surveys show that the prices of most yarn varieties in India continue to fall by 2-3 rupees/kg. 100% 30-count yarn fell by 1.5%, and 40-count combed yarn fell by 1.3%.
Cotton prices have fallen even more. Although CCI has restarted acquisitions, the scale of acquisitions is very small. Since most of the new cotton has been processed and sold, long-term low demand will put great pressure on cotton prices.
The price of polyester staple fiber in India fell in early April and began to stabilize in the middle of the month, but there has been no demand.
