According to a report by the Financial Times on October 31, the Bangladesh Garment Industry Wage Committee recently determined that the minimum wage for entry-level workers in the industry is Taka 8,000, which includes basic salary, accommodation subsidy, medical subsidy, transportation subsidy, and meals. The subsidies will be increased from the current 3000, 1200, 250, 200 and 650 to 4100, 2050, 600, 350 and 900 taka respectively. The new wage standards will be implemented in December this year. Previously, the Bangladesh Industrial Commission had recommended increasing the basic wage and minimum wage of workers in the garment industry to 16,000 and 18,000 taka respectively.
