On January 31, 2017, Health Canada and Frederic Lou Inc. jointly announced a voluntary recall of baby bathrobes made in China.
The recalled product is a hooded baby bathrobe, made of 100% cotton and equipped with a pair of baby socks, suitable for babies aged 0 to 9 months. The bathrobe is light pink and features a small fish appliqué. The product code is BRW03 and the UPC code is 874989005406.
The recalled product was sold in 71 sets at Bed, Bath and Beyond stores and Amazon online stores in Canada from March 2015 to January 2017. The reason for the recall is that Health Canada’s sampling tests determined that the recalled products did not meet the requirements of Canadian law regarding the flammability of children’s pajamas. Children’s loose-fitting pajamas are more likely to come into contact with ignition sources such as stoves, candles and matches than tight-fitting pajamas. Once ignited, loose pajamas will burn quickly and may cause severe burns over large areas of a child’s body. Therefore, cotton is not allowed in loose fitting pajamas fabrics. As of January 24, 2017, the company has not received any reports of accidents or personal injuries related to the use of this product. Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese baby bathrobes
