During the week of September 7-14, Pakistani cotton yarn quotations continued to fall. Affected by the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Pakistan’s domestic demand was weak. However, with the recent decline in international cotton prices, the international market has strong demand for cotton yarn. In the past four weeks, the price of 30S carded yarn in Pakistan has remained at 130 rupees/pack, down 8.93% year-on-year, while the prices of 60S and 80S combed yarn have remained stable.
Affected by the fall in international cotton prices, Pakistan’s imports of high-count pure cotton yarn from India began to increase last week, putting some pressure on domestic yarn mills. China is the main market for Pakistan’s cotton yarn exports.
Last week, the price of 1.4D polyester staple fiber remained at 117 rupees/kg. Polyester-cotton and blended yarn prices remained unchanged. At present, the spot price of Pakistani cotton Kakira is 5,900 rupees per maund. As new cotton continues to come on the market, cotton prices in Pakistan are not expected to rise significantly.
