According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan harvested more than 26,200 tons of silkworm cocoons in 2016, which was basically the same as the same period last year (26,000 tons), and the average purchase price increased by 11%. According to statistics, each ton of silkworm cocoons can produce 350 kilograms of silk and 13,000 meters of satin.

Uzbekistan is the third largest silk-producing country after China and India. There are 36 silk weaving enterprises that can produce 2,000 tons of silk, 200 tons of spun silk, 1 million linear meters of silk fabric, and 1,000 square meters of carpets every year. In order to increase silk production capacity, the Uzbek government invested US$7 million in 2015 to build four new silk weaving enterprises.
