Recently, the European Chemicals Agency launched a public consultation on limiting the lead content in items or parts of items that can be put in the mouth by children. By then, some consumer products with a lead content equal to or exceeding 0.05% of the entire weight will not be allowed to be placed on the EU market. This lead regulatory upgrade will affect a variety of products including clothing, shoes, handbags and wallets, accessories, interior decorations, sports and leisure products, etc.
According to a European safety survey report, young children aged 6 to 36 months often like to put objects in their mouths, and the alloys, pigments and dyes on the surfaces of the objects may contain lead, making it easy for children to follow them. Excessive intake of lead through chewing can affect growth.
