According to Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told Congress on November 17 that based on political changes after the U.S. election, the Vietnamese government will stop seeking to push Congress to approve the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP). “The United States has announced a suspension of sending the TPP to Congress for review, so Vietnam has not submitted sufficient conditions to approve the case.”
Reuters reported on November 17 that a total of 12 countries have participated in negotiations on the TPP launched five years ago. Vietnam is one of the founding members of the TPP and is regarded as the largest beneficiary of the TPP. It was once considered certain to pass the agreement. Nguyen Xuan Phuc also stated on November 17 that Vietnam will continue its economic opening policy regardless of whether there is TPP or not.
